Lumley Jones

Brigadier General Lumley O W Jones (1887–1918) was the last British General officer to die in the First World War.
Born in 1887 at Llandyssil in Wales, Jones was the son of Richard and Catherine Jones of Cefn Bryntalch. He had started the First World War as a captain in the 2nd Essex Regiment and took part in nearly every battle on the Western Front. By 1918 he reached the rank of brigadier general and was commander of the 13th Infantry Brigade. He was also made a Chevalier of the Legion of Honour (France).
Jones died of pneumonia on 14 September 1918 aged 41 and was buried at the Bagneux British Cemetery at Gezaincourt. He was the last of 12 British General Officers to die on the Somme.〔http://www. twgpp.org/information.php?id=2776855, with photograph of headstone〕〔http://www.ww1wargraves.co.uk/ww1_cemeteries/ww1_cemetery_b.asp〕 A photo of his head stone can be seen (here ).
